  • ‘Gangtey Sanga Choeling Goenba’ is a stunning monastery located on a hill of Phobjikha which offers serene view of the valley. It was first founded in 1613 by Je Kuenga Gyaltshen.
  • The monastery has a large one building Bhutanese architecture with most of its interior and exterior structure made from wood and is surrounded by many small houses outside the monastery boundary. The complex also has monks quarter, meditation centers and small guest houses.

  • Currently the Gangtey Monastery is headed by the ninth Gangtey Trulku and an interesting fact about the monastery is that it is the largest Nyingma monastery in the country. The Black Necked Cranes circle the monastery three times and also repeat the process while returning to Tibet.

  • Tourist can experience the beauty of the unique monastery situated in a forested hilltop. After a short visit to the monastery indulge in a hiking expedition down to the valley towarda Gangtey village and witness the beautiful sceneries across the valley.
