It is believed that Zhabdrung founded the famous Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, upon the guidance from the great Yeshey Goenpo, also called Mahakala who visited him at Chimi Lhakhang in Punakha and gave him ideas about building a Dzong on the edge of a hill in Wangdue Phodrang. When Zhabdrung sent some inspectors to survey the area, they witnessed four ravens flying in circles around the spot where the Dzong was to be built. When Zhabdrung heard about this he commanded the building of the Dzong as he believed that those ravens conveyed auspicious symbols.
