  • Trashigang Dzongkhag (district) also known as “The Jewel of the East”, shares its border with Mongar Dzongkhag in the west, Samdrup Jongkhar and Pemagatshel Dzongkhag in the South then TrashiYangtse Dzongkhag in the north and Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh in the east. Trashigang Dzongkhag is one of the largest Dzongkhags in the Kingdom. The altitude elevation ranges from 600 m to over 4500 m above sea level.

  • Trashigang Dzongkhag has a total area of 3,066.99 sq. km and has the population of more than seventy thousand. Trashigang main Town has an attractive ambience, with its painted houses, amongst beautiful flowers commonly bougainvillea and its tiny shops and cafes. This town is also the principle market place for the semi-nomadic people of Merak and Sakteng.

  • Trashigang Dzongkhag is administratively divided into three Dungkhags, 15 Gewogs and 79 Chiwogs including a Thromde. One of the most reputed colleges in the country, the Sherubtse College which was the first accredited college in Bhutan, founded in 1966 by a group of Jesuits under the leadership of William Mackey is located under Trashigang and became part of the newly created Royal University of Bhutan system that comprises all public post-secondary schools in Bhutan.

  • Tourists while in Trashigang can get the chance to see the unique Brokpas, a semi-nomadic ethnic group from the villages of Merak and Sakteng in the extreme northeast. They have a distinctive attire, which differs from Bhutan’s national dress, thus offering a special cultural feast. And also, capture the different animals and bird’s species visiting the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary covering Trashigang as well.
